For my final year project for University I'm doing an animation in an old school style, hence the grainy feel these images have. A part of my project is to also write a report to show what testing I've done throughout and what comments/feedback I get in regards to it.
Now my animation isn't yet finished, but I've taken the time to capture one or two stills from my current and older examples to show what's going on. As you can see one is in the traditional black and white colours where as the other is a sepia tone.
What i'd like from you all, is to tell me which of these two themes you like and why. I'd appreciate it if you went into a bit of detail also, that way I can gain a collective conclusion to add into my report
Thanks very much in advance to all who participate!
well, sepia tone makes it look all old and western type. Which I assume the cartoon kinda is. The black and white, makes it look like a cartoon from the early days, like the really old mickey mouse cartoons. But somehow I dont think the tone would match that kind of goofy 50's disney sort of thing, so I'd go with the sepia tone. seems to fit the subject matter more

I think I like the black and white better, but that might be because I don't really like brown. I also think it gives it more of an old-school style, especially if you add those weird white lines that keep moving around.
i think that, if you're going for the old school animation, the sepia really brings more to it. i mean, for some odd reason, the black and white just seems to be too far back. /shrug

"When the moon fell in love with the sun, All was golden in the sky. All was golden when the day met the night."
The sepia coloration matches closer to the olden style that would be used in the 19th Century West. I'd stick with it if you're going for something more on the authentic side.

I kinda have to go with the first person that commented.
The B&W is old, but a Disney sort of well-preserved old. The Sepia is old, but a not-as-well-preserved kind, and yes, slightly more western-ish feel, since when you watch an old Western, all the sand and crap makes the tone of the video kind of sandy.
I will have to go with the Sepia, since it's probably not a well-preserved cartoon.
I've never seen an old cartoon in sepia, only in black and white... (they don't turn to sepia so much as begin timply to blurr away to a foggy gray color,) if you can, do a youtube for Steamboat Willy in its unrestored form.
either way, to my eye, the black and white just looks better.

My opinion... Go for sepia.

I think Sepia works better.
